Brian Lutz (b. 1985) grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia. He always drew and was encouraged by everyone around him to continue. Coming of age in the 1990’s, Lutz was obsessed with art, television, film, music, books, magazines, skateboarding, and all things creative. These influences would follow him throughout his career.

Lutz has had an extensive education in the arts, obtaining his Associate in Applied Arts in Advertising Art from Pennsylvania College of Technology and Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art from Tyler School of Art at Temple University. In 2020 Lutz earned his MFA in Illustration from the University of Hartford where he has since joined the faculty an Adjunct Professor.

Soon after the completion graduate school, Lutz began working regularly as a freelance illustrator with the majority of his work focused on editorial. Today, he lives with his wife, Elizabeth in Connecticut and enjoys mentoring young creatives while continuing to pursue his freelance and personal practice. His work has been recognized by American Illustration, Communication Arts, Applied Arts, and more.

Currently, Lutz serves on The Society of Publication Designers (SPD) Executive Board of Directors. Within SPD, he helps plan portfolio reviews for professional illustrators, organizes student and professional competitions, and mentors early career illustrators. He enjoys giving back to the creative community that has provided him so much.

Lutz loves to draw and is most likely sharpening his Blackwing pencil as you read this (or wishing he were).
